Creating a Workspace
Creating a Workspace
Overview
This guide walks you through creating and configuring a workspace in the Org App. Workspaces are logical groupings within an organization that help you organize projects, tasks, and other entities.
Time Required: ~5 minutes Skill Level: Beginner
Prerequisites
Before creating a workspace, ensure you have:
- At least one organization created (see Getting Started)
- Administrative or owner permissions for the organization
- A clear purpose for the workspace (team, project, or department)
Creating a New Workspace
Step 1: Navigate to Workspaces
Navigate to the Workspaces page by clicking Workspaces in the sidebar or going to /apps/org/workspaces.

Step 2: Start New Workspace
Click the Create Workspace button in the upper right corner of the page.

Step 3: Select Parent Organization
If you have multiple organizations, select the organization where this workspace should belong.
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Parent organization for the workspace | Acme Corp |
Note: If you only have one organization, it may be pre-selected.

Step 4: Enter Workspace Details
Fill in the workspace form with the following information:
| Field | Required | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Unique workspace name | Engineering |
| Description | No | Purpose or scope of the workspace | Development team workspace |

Step 5: Save the Workspace
Click Save to create the workspace. The workspace will:
- Appear in your workspace list
- Be automatically selected if no workspace was previously selected
- Become available in other FlowState apps

Workspace Naming Best Practices
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Use clear, descriptive names | Use abbreviations only you understand |
| Keep names concise | Create overly long names |
| Be consistent across workspaces | Mix naming conventions |
| Include team or function name | Use generic names like "Workspace 1" |
Configuring the Workspace
Setting Up Workspace Attributes
After creating the workspace, configure attributes specific to your workflow:
- Navigate to Attributes page
- Create workspace-appropriate categories (or use org-level ones):
- Development: "Feature", "Bug", "Tech Debt"
- Marketing: "Campaign", "Content", "Event"
- Sales: "Lead", "Opportunity", "Account"
- Create tags for common labels:
- Priority levels: "High", "Medium", "Low"
- Status indicators: "Blocked", "Needs Review"
Workspace Context in Other Apps
Once a workspace is selected:
| App | Effect |
|---|---|
| Projects | New projects belong to selected workspace |
| Todo | Tasks are filtered to workspace |
| Process | Workflows are workspace-specific |
| Product | Product items are workspace-scoped |
Managing Existing Workspaces
Selecting a Workspace
To switch your active workspace:
- Navigate to Workspaces page
- Click on the workspace you want to select
- Selection persists across browser sessions
Editing a Workspace
To modify workspace details:
- Navigate to Workspaces page
- Click on the workspace to edit
- Update the name or description
- Click Save
Archiving vs Deleting
| Action | When to Use | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Archive | Temporary inactivity, may need later | Hides from active lists, preserves data |
| Delete | Permanent removal, data not needed | Removes workspace and all contained data |
Warning: Deleting a workspace permanently removes all associated projects, tasks, and other entities.
